In 1945, when the 2nd World War ended, Monty Collins, a Commander of the British Air Force, was assigned to Berlin to help in the recovery of the violent bombings that the city had suffered during the war. To symbolize his devotion to the cause, Collins chose the zoo's recovery as a priority and adopted a monkey named Max as his mascot. The inspiration for the name of the gin came from there, when Collins decided to create his own gin. Monkey 47's recipe involves harvesting 47 botanicals from the Black Forest, carefully selected and hand-distilled. Gin with the most botanicals in the world, which gives it great subtlety and perfume on the nose, in addition to acidic red fruits and spicy notes; and that, on the palate, is disquieting and tasty, highlighting notes of pepper and flowers such as jasmine and elderberry, immensely fragrant citrus touches that alternate between sweet and bitter, with very interesting red fruit points. It is a balanced and complex gin, dry, with an intense flavor of juniper and citrus and a long residual bitterness.
