To talk about Tuscan wine is to talk about the wines produced in a wine region, located in the center of Italy, bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and converted into one of the most important wine areas in the world.

Often nicknamed “Petrus Italiano”, Masseto is an exceptional wine produced from the grapes of only a 100% Merlot vineyard. Masseto's story began in the 1980 s when Lodovico Antinori founded a new homestead in the lands he inherited from his mother in Bolgheri.

Half hidden at the foot of the hills near Bolgheri, Ornellaia is a few miles from the Mediterranean coast. In the summer months, the cool sea breeze caresses the nearby vineyards and olive groves, while during the winter the hills are sheltered from the cold northerly winds.

Masseto is produced by Ornellaia in the Tuscany region, produced only with the 100% Merlot grape variety. The wine is well full-body and its intense aromatic character of a warm-weather Merlot proved to be an excellent combination for the new oak barrels that added some complexity and simultaneously attenuating tannin levels and relatively high alcohol level.
