Maritávora was founded with the aim of providing a business structure to a family business with over 150 years of history and tradition.

In the mid-19th century, José Junqueiro Júnior, father of the poet Guerra Junqueiro, acquired a group of farms and properties in the Municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta in the Douro Superior, the vast majority of which remain in the possession of his direct descendants to this day.

This wine was made with grapes from the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and other varieties, from vines aged between 15 and 50 years. Fermented in stone vats with foot treading. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
