Maritávora was founded with the aim of providing a business structure to a family business with over 150 years of history and tradition.

In the mid-19th century, José Junqueiro Júnior, father of the poet Guerra Junqueiro, acquired a group of farms and properties in the Municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta in the Douro Superior, the vast majority of which remain in the possession of his direct descendants to this day.

An old vineyard of white grape varieties planted by our ancestor at the end of the 19th century remains in production to this day, giving rise to Maritávora Nº1 Grande Reserva Branco.

This wine was made with grapes from an old vineyard over 100 years old from the Códega do Larinho, Rabigato and Viosinho varieties, among others. Fermented in new French oak barrels, with 3 months of battonage, having aged for a total of 6 months in barrels.
