Maritávora was founded with the aim of providing with a business structure a family activity with more than 150 years of history and tradition.

In the middle of the 19th century, José Junqueiro Júnior, father of the poet Guerra Junqueiro, acquired a set of farms and properties in the Municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta in Douro Superior, the vast majority of which still remains in the possession of his direct descendants.

An old white vine planted by this our ancestor at the end of the 19th century remains in production today, giving rise to Maritávora N ° 1 Great White Reserve.

This wine was made with grapes from an old vineyard over 100 years old from the Códega do Larinho, Rabigato and Viosinho grape variety among others. He fermented in new French oak barrels, with 3 months of battonage, having put in a total of 6 months in barrels.
