Maritávora was founded with the aim of providing a business structure to a family activity with more than 150 years of history and tradition.

In the mid-19th century, José Junqueiro Júnior, father of the poet Guerra Junqueiro, acquired a set of farms and properties in the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta in the Douro Superior, the vast majority of which are still in the possession of his direct descendants.

This wine was made with grapes from old vines of the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and other varieties. It fermented in stone vats with treading feet. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
